Product Description

Cellucor WS1 Extreme 120 Caps

WS1 Extreme uses Docosahexanoic Acid (DHA) and Eicosapentanoic Acid (EPA), which are essential omega-3 fatty acids. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are polyunsaturated (contain multiple double bonds in their molecular structures), commonly liquid at room temperature, and must be obtained from the diet as they cannot be naturally synthesized by the body.

EFAs have notable effects on the reduction of circulating triglyceride levels by enhancing systemic lipoprotein lipase that breaks down these circulating lipids. EFAs also inhibit the synthesis and secretion of triglycerides from the liver.

Other than their triglyceride-regulating abilities, EPA and DHA have independent functions in the body as well that primarily involve cell signaling and the maintenance of cellular membranes.

DHA is multi-functional, a primary reason for its selection for WS1 Extreme. EPA can be converted into DHA, the most abundant and most frequently used EFA in the body. DHA is a precursor of the family of chemicals known as docosanoids. Docosanoids have many functions, most notably, those in the brain and nervous system. They can repair damage caused by oxidative stress and protect the brain from viral attack; docosanoids comprise the bulk of neuronal cellular membranes. Supplementation with DHA has been shown to improve overall neural and cognitive function; it has shown potential in the treatment of ADHD and Alzheimer’s disease.

EPA also has many functions similar to DHA and is a DHA precursor. EPA is a primary precursor of the eicosanoid family of compounds. Eicosanoids are more physiologically active than the docosanoids. The eicosanoids are chemicals that act as anti-inflammatory compounds in competition with arachidonic acid, but also aid wound healing and increase thermogenesis.

WS1 Extreme uses Acetyl-l-carnitine, ALC, to increase the metabolism of body fat and free fatty acids in the blood stream. ALC acts as an acetyl group donor for fats that, once acetylated, can enter the cell and undergo metabolism into ATP. ALC is also a precursor of coenzyme A (CoA) which has a major role in fatty acid oxidation.

Additionally, CoA is responsible for the transport of fatty acids within the cell to the mitochondria in which the actual metabolism of fatty acids occurs. As a secondary precursor, ALC can be converted into CoA and then into Acetyl-CoA, which is the starting point in the Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle, the main energy-producing process in the body that yields ATP.

WS1 Extreme also reduces high triglyceride levels and the potential to develop diabetes with Tetradecylthioacetic Acid (TTA) and Bitter Gourd Extract. These two ingredients decrease hepatic synthesis of both triglycerides and cholesterol, while increasing insulin sensitivity.

TTA is primarily known for its insulin-sensitizing effects, but is also a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-alpha) transcription factor agonist. PPAR-alpha is a DNA-bound receptor that is responsible for the production of peroxisomes. Peroxisomes are tiny organelles that contain enzymes that specifically oxidize fatty acids and aid their metabolism.

WS1 Extreme’s Bitter Gourd Extract was selected for its particularly high concentrations of the phytosterols, momordin and charantin, appropriately named for the plant from which they are derived, Momordica charantia, the taxonomic name for bitter gourd. Charantin increases the body’s sensitivity to insulin, thereby producing more glycogen than fat in the body. Momordin decreases the amounts of triglycerides and cholesterol that are synthesized and secreted by the liver.

Like many Cellucor products, we have provided beneficial co-factors in WS1 Extreme that aid biological processes. Vitamin A (retinol) and K1 (phylloquinone) have many biological functions, and some are complimentary to those of WS1 Extreme.

Retinol improves eyesight and functions in cell signaling via its retinoic acid form. However, in WS1 Extreme, vitamin A was selected for its effects on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma), the DNA-bound receptor that is responsible for fat cell differentiation. Retinol has a dose-dependent effect on PPAR-gamma inhibition; the body’s ability to deposit new fat cells becomes compromised and body fat is decreased.

Phylloquinone is essential for the functioning of the anaerobic bacteria that line the intestines. These bacteria use phylloquinone to synthesize more biologically available forms of vitamin K that help in blood clotting and the conversion of glutamine into glutamic acid. In addition, when these bacteria synthesize these forms of vitamin K, it produces higher levels of ATP.
